Common Goal for All AIA Elementary Teachers (Goal 1)

Our common goal for this year is-

Meeting and applying subject standards to promote in depth learning and literacy development

What do I do to achieve this goal?

I write the lesson plans based on subject standards such as in English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies (Unit of Inquiry). Little by little, our I was able to integrate all subject standards and activities in all of our lessons in the unit. I certainly agree that we can develop in depth literacy and learning in any lesson and in any subject.

Below are some steps that we take to meet this objective.

  • To develop literacy and in depth learning in our class, I take every opportunity to add new words to our students' vocabulary. Students are free to clarify ask about the meaning of words that are new to them.

  • We post vocabulary words that are frequently used in every unit.

  • We assign phonics lessons every week and include them in our spelling activities.

  • We have guided reading lessons twice a week (Tuesday and Thursday).

  • We include writing, listening, speaking, reading, and presentation in many of our lessons.
